Flight Simulator X can look awesome with some mods. But, as for actual fighter jet games. I haven't played any in years, but back in the late nineties I played the hell out of European Air War and Falcon 4.0, both by Microprose, from 1998. Awesome games, with very surprisingly good graphics for their time. Also, I haven't played them myself in years and years, but I've heard that they both have (or at least had) very active modding communities, who made a lot of big visual enhancements for them over the years.

I'm not sure what he is looking for other than good graphics because he mentioned Hawx which is arcade, and Flight Sim X, which is all sim. I dont really like flying with the jets but do really like the helicopter combat in the game - can be quite satisfying. I think the jet combat is only good with a joystick though and going between a joystick and keyboard for air and ground combat is too cumbersome. Also.wtf is that in your sig.
