I have an old Mac powerbook - I keep all of my music, pictures, and time machine saves on a 500 GB WD Passport. Now, I have a PC with Windows 8 (functions with the same apps as Windows 7) and I bought a new 1 TB WD Passport that I want to transfer all of my old files to (Mac music, pictures, files). Now, I have a PC with Windows 8 (functions with the same apps as Windows 7) and I bought a new 1 TB WD Passport that I want to transfer all of my old files to (Mac music, pictures, files). Both my Mac and my WD Passport configured for a Mac are going to stop working soon (mac old, WD was dropped) so I want to do this asap.
I have tried plugging the new PC-configured WD Passport into my Mac and dragging and dropping from Mac-WD to PC-WD, but it won't allow it. Obviously it won't work to plug the Mac-WD into my PC unless I re-configure it (and then I will lose all of my data). I don't have enough room to temporarily put all of the files onto the Mac desktop and move it that way. Plus, since my Mac is almost 5 years old, it is too slow to transfer files anyways. Additionally, I have a 16GB flash drive that I was going to try and move files from my Mac to my PC (And then PC-WD) but it is a slow process since folders with similar names (i.e., the same band, different albums) won't be added to it. Any suggestions??
Thanks, Kendall. If you dropped a drive, either it broke or not. If not, then not. A 'PC-format' is likely NTFS.
The OS X default driver is read-only for NTFS, so buy and install 'Paragon NTFS For Mac' to copy files to NTFS. A Mac format is 'un-everything' in Windows. Will not even mount. To see files and copy files FROM a Mac drive, use 'HFSExplorer', free.
It works similar to data recovery--does not mount the Mac formatted drive, but can find a list of files on the Mac drive. To mount the Mac drive in Windows so that it appears in 'Computer' window and works just like a Windows formatted drive, buy and install 'Paragon HFS+ For Windows'. • Tell us some more • Upload in Progress • Upload failed.
