Important for the job. NEVER, EVER update OS as they come out. Compatibility is an utter fucking nightmare!
I'm still on Mountain Lion because most improvements since have been really unessential to me and it's very stable with my set-up (PT12.4 Project Mix I/O). Just roll back using a Time Machine backup. If you don't have that then another thing that's important for the job: ALWAYS have a backup system as part of your workflow.
Version 12.8.3 of Pro Tools has been optimized to work with High Sierra (10.13.2), and introduces new video file support for post-production workflows, making it the fastest, most powerful Pro Tools software for Mac.
Lost client work and had to rerecord ONCE. It was enough; it's a morbid thing have to explain to them and if it happens more than once because the first didn't wake you up, then the data loss and headaches are well deserved as far as I'm concerned. I keep two physical back-ups and sync every single thing to Dropbox. Tangential I know, but I try to spread the good word when I can haha! Can't help you with the update nightmare, but just letting you know. I am (or was.) a Pro Tools fan boy, using it for about 10 years, but a couple of days ago, I got sick of all the little but annoying glitches (I've put up with them too long!) so I gave Reaper a shot. Picked it all up in a few hours with the help of a couple of tutorials. It feels like they've built the DAW just for me. Loads of exciting features. Like PT on steroids! And no glitches so far:) I don't think I'll be going back to PT. I have another 11 months for my PT subscription but honestly, I don't see myself using it again (apart from finishing off current projects) I urge you to give Reaper a try!
& Good luck with your current projects:) • • • •.
