Video Card Cable For Mac Pro 2008

I read threads after threads showing 2 power connectors for video card upgrade on my Mac Pro early 2008. Here is a picture of what my motherboard looks like. Can someone tell me if I can put a Radeon 4870 or 6870 card in my Mac Pro - needs 2 power connectors. This graphics card booster cable provides additional power from the internal power ports to graphics cards which require more power than the standard PCIe slot provides. Perfect for adding a 2nd video card to your Mac Pro!

I can testify that the Asus R9 280X 3GB works great in mine. It's pretty much the same thing as the D700 offered with the current Mac Pro but with less VRAM. I power it combining the little 6-pin PCI power connectors and a molex adapter from the optical bay. You will want to delete the following (prevailing notion is that they're buggy) files to get best performance: AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext: AppleIntelCPUPowerManagementClient.kext: Source: I'm considering this card for my old Mac Pro. Have you flashed it, and if so, which precise model did you get? If you don't need the Bios screen don't bother getting a flashed one. My 5.1 is running a 660GTX which is a solid card, has Nvidia drivers (which are much better than the stock Apple ones.) How are the web drivers better?

The more specific you can get, the better. It has been my impression so far that, aside from greater compatibility, they're mostly the same quality (not surprising: same team writes them both).

I've done benchmarking against our games internally and I haven't yet been able to find any performance deltas between the web drivers and the Apple-provided drivers in OS X. I can testify that the Asus R9 280X 3GB works great in mine.

Reading from the box in my hand, it has the oh-so-catchy-and-memorable name: Radeon R9 280X DirectCU II TOP I didn't flash it so I don't get the boot screen, but I don't really miss it. I actually had two of these installed at one point for the lols (connected to an external PSU. Which is easier to manage than it sounds), and it posted OpenCL benchmark scores to rival the new Mac Pros (these cards run at a higher frequency), but I use so few things that take advantage of OpenCL that I moved the extra one to the Windows box I keep around for when I need it.
